Constricted Ear / Satyr Ear Deformity with projection Otoplasty. The underlying deformity is always unique and requires improvisation for the ear sculpture. With dissolving skin and cartilage sutures, I almost have it down to b...e able to avoid the after surgery sewn in bolster dressing. However, still just not enough support for the expanded helix rim to trust getting away with the sutured dressing. Not needing the dressing has its advantages for patients traveling from far away so their stay in Richmond can be shorter.
It is so much fun having the patient look at his new ears at the end of the surgery. But yet again, the family would not permit me to capture the emotion of living with ear deformity. This seems to be a challenge for the ear deformity patient. So many just do not want to discuss their emotions for other to better understand the stresses of living with the deformed ear. Perhaps that is why otoplasty are just not discussed in the media.
